Hello, I'm a web developer/programmer living in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I have a good reputation for quality and reliability and like nothing more than seeing the client satisfied and happy. I am confident in my work, take pride in what I do and like working with talented people as this of course reflects well upon myself.
My Work
My work is largely process driven with a strong emphasis on the more creative aspects of development. The ability to leverage new and emerging technologies while maintaining security and stability is key. I believe that adherence to web standards is of the utmost importance - not just in terms of accessibility and consistency but also to insure future extensibility. With tasks that have traditionally been the domain of the desktop application now migrating to the web, having a strong web presence is more crucial now than it has ever been.

Development Style
Some of the tools and methodologies I employ:
- I use 'tableless' (X)HTML, and CSS - all of my work validates XHTML Strict with CSS2/3.
- I 'hand code' as I often find this to be the simplest and most direct way of getting results. This being said, I am also comfortable with various content managment systems such as Drupal, Joomla and WordPress.
- Sever-side, I primarily use PHP5 with an object-oriented approach and a MVC style architecture. I can work in other server-side languages as well but I find PHP (and sometimes Python) to be the most effective in meeting my needs.
- I am very comfortable with Javascript, AJAX and accompanying client side libraries and API's (Jquery and the Google's AJAX API's being two of my favourites).
- Database wise, I like to use MySQL(i) with an OO approach.
- Much of my work is done with Flash and Action Script 3 as well as a Java based, open source variant of Adobe's Flash Media Server called Red 5.
- I use Photoshop for most of my graphics needs with a working knowledge of Illustrator and 3ds Max. Designers like working with me because I attempt to render their mockups as true to concept as possible.
- I regularly maintain an Apache Red Hat server and I am comfortable in most linux environments (Ubuntu being my distro of choice).
- SEO wise, I use Apache's mod_rewrite for the rewriting/reformatting of URL's as well as using guidelines set out by Google, Yahoo and W3C. I do not consider SEO to be a 'black art' - a properly coded site with content relevant to your target audience always leads to good results.
